I'm glad, no matter how good the gibbing itself looked, it feels too much like the bodies are being held together by glue. Plus, you'd think explosions like that would last a little longer and cause third degree burnings. And the shotgun gib, well, I don't think enemies would gib that easily via shotgun unless you turned up the settings, anyway.

Enemies don't gib from the shotty anymore. If any enemy would gib from the shotty, it would be the Headcrabs and the Controller imo.
Oh god, I just imagined blasting a zombie in the face with a secondary shot, and the headcrab explodes off of it's hosts's body. |

That would be awesome.
Hell, maybe even the secondary shot being able to blow small limbs off. It might be a little much, but at least it'd feel more satisfying since your sacrificing more ammo. |

I don't think they could do regular dismemberment, or they could, but they couldn't get the limb that's "off" to not affect the ragdoll. Personally I don't see that as an issue because it wasn't an issue in the left 4 dead games. Oh well.

The headcrab doesn't gib, but it does come off. So it does half of that.

I really can't picture Xen in Black Mesa, and it's not just because it hasn't been shown. It's just such a different place to Earth and the textures from the original HL are so poor that the environment could be interpreted in so many ways. There was one particular texture, used a lot in the factory and other "buildings", that looked like metal behind a lot of vines; that could be remade as looking just natural, or maybe more metal-y... I just can't picture it. And the skyboxes? They looked like gigantic space microbes. I just can't see it done on the Source engine.
Devs will have to be more aesthetically creative in Xen than in anywhere else. And maybe also creative in gameplay too, since so many people hated the over-use of platforming in the Xen levels... Last edited by Artic Xiongmao; 20-06-12 at 12:24.. |

It certainly has to look strange. Whatever they come up with, I hope it's not just a 1-to-1 makeover, with pretty much HD versions of all textures and models, and nothing creatively new. But looking at some of those newer screenshots... yeah, I'm pretty sure we can put those worries to rest.

Maybe they should add Magnusson in the lounge in Anomalous Materials because he says If you pull this off, I might just forgive you for that debacle at Black Mesa. You know the one I mean... involving a certain microwave casserole."
