They should add HECU zombies that behave like zombines.

That's been suggested many times over the years. Please try using the search feature before posting any more suggestions.

Its not shitty at all! Its perfect!!.. i wanted to suggest exactly the same: use other textures for the vortigaunts, closer to the vortigaunts in the original Half Life. What you did is f*cking perfekt.. except the eyes maybe (i know, you wanted to approach the look of the eyes of the original hl1 vorts). So please Black mesa source developers: Adopt xalener's vort skin proposal 1:1!.. Its very perfekt.. The half life 2 vort skin looks oddly pale and boring... I would even recommend to make the speckles even a little bit bigger...! Its funny, but i had the same thougt, even before hl2 existed.. I always wished zombie soldiers/hecu's, which do suicide attacks with handgrenades... An additional nice idea would be, that some zombified hecu's still carry a gun and just shoot blindly around..without aiming, out of reflex... thanks Last edited by Raminator; 23-06-12 at 03:39.. Well, if Valve meant for the Vortiguant to look the way it does in the Half Life 2 series, than it should look that way. I only defend the color customization of the Collar and bracelets. I defend any change to the collar and bracelets considering their a cheaply made texture with very low resolution and are not meant to be seen up close. Also, the crotch plate wasn't there in the original, so why they kept that, I dunno -- I guess you can't remove some parts without messing up the whole thing?
I was told in the past that they're staying because they "work' - which is fair, I guess. Last edited by OrderOfDagon; 22-06-12 at 22:12.. |

Well, but this is Black mesa source, not half life 2.. Its a remake of the original Half Life. Why should they look like the vortigaunts in hl2 then? It would be some kind of retconning, which i absolutely don't like, wouldn't it? An other proposal would be, to use this skin AND also the hl2 vortigaunt skins, just for diversity. So that they would have different skin colors, similar like we humans have.. btw: I absolutely dont like hl2.. I just played it once, then never again.. The almost only thing, that made me happy in hl2 was kleiners appearance, because it was one of the few things, that reminded me of the original game.. But i'm going off-topic now.. : ) |

The goal -from my knowledge- is to do what Valve would have done with Half Life if they had current technology and potential. Quote:

Remake, re-imagining... come on, its absolutely the same...

But this brings me to a very very other point, as you mentioned that Black mesa source is (among other things) an attempt to recreate an Half Life under the aspect if valve WOULD have had current/better technology, ressources and so on: Why don't you, i mean the Black mesa developers now, put the Panther eye back into the game? I image it was cancelled back then, because of lack of time and so on, which you now have plenty enough. I would be so happy, if the Panther eye would be in black mesa.. at least some rare encounters. Its in my eyes the perfect evolutionary missing link between the vortigaunts and the gargantua for example... I would have enriched the game SO much.. its really a pity, that the panther eye isnt included. I hope some geniouses will make a perfect mod for black mesa source one day to bring in the panther eye finally... I remember back in '98 or so, that i saw a preview of an early Half life version in a german games magazine.. It showed amongst other things, a panther eye.. i was disappointed later when i played HL that i never encountered it. i was expecting it :/ ![]() ![]() thanks edit: i hope i didn't go too far off-topic.. i think i will copy this into the Panther eye thread.. because its really bugging me... I'm not completely against a color scheme change, but I simply don't feel it's necessary. I did like your customization Xalenar -- with the exception of the eye. I think it would be rather cool to see it.
The only thing I will argue is a change of the collar and bracelets, etc. Anyways, it's far too late to ask for changes like this, I think. Last edited by OrderOfDagon; 22-06-12 at 23:24.. |

Remake detail for detail recreation using up to date assets.
Re-imagining (or reboot) Change down to the foundation. It is absolutely NOT the same thing. Last edited by xalener; 23-06-12 at 05:42.. |

'Tis what Valve would have put into their game if they had the technology of today.
I've never met anybody who has expressed a dislike of the Panthereye. There's just something lovable about a carnivore that mauls people. But in a game where the player is upright, there's no obvious way to implement mauling. ...Unless if pounces push the player backward, with extra damage being applied when the player is pinned against a wall. That would be a good simulation for mauling. |

I don't care for the panthereye.

Yeah, it seems too much like an actual panther to actually frighten me -- but I do think a re-imagined version could be cool. Kinda like a stalking alien.

I kind of like the idea of a bigger alien approaching you in a closed area as a bigger threat, just like the antlion guard in Half-Life 2. It allways makes my heart rush a bit if it is fast and you can't just like go in front of it and stick a bullet in its head. In Half-Life there was the Gargantua, but that's not enough in my opinion. However, I agree that the panthereye looks kinda strange and not very frightening. Looks more like some adorable pet to me.

Okay, so maybe it's too late to add this but I was thinking that this would be nice;
Gordon arrives on Xen. Not far off he sees what looks like a dead HEV suited scientist. The head moves a little. Gordon walks towards the NPC, at about 20 paces it feebly lifts it's hand grasping in Gordon's direction for help, and falls limp almost immediately. Then it's dead. I think that would add to the tenseness of Xen and remind the player that although beautiful, Xen is still deadly. |

The reason there has been no Xen media is because the entire chapter is underwater, with the old jumping-puzzles replaced by air-pocket breathing-puzzles.
And yes, that's a quick suggestion to flood every map of Xen. |

Considering Xen is a collection of asteroids in outer space, to "flood Xen" you would have to flood pretty much the entire Universe

Xen is not a collection of asteroids in outer space. It's in a 'borderworld', as it's called in-game, presumably some kind of inter-dimensional area. I doubt it would even be considered 'space' in the sense you say, or even 'asteroids' since it's not even a universe we're familiar with.
