If it's something new, a developer might let you in on what's going on. If you'd like to ask a question about the developers, you can do that here.

If I remember correctly if you whacked enough scientists (Or maybe you had to do it in front of another one) they would cease to help you and instead cower in fear. Would something like that be implemented? I sure would hate for there to be repercussions for 'helping' contain the situation.

Yeah, the Barneys would shoot you too.
I loved that about Half Life - it made the whole thing seem a whole lot realistic.

A mod isn't like a job, a constant amount of work isn't done by everyone in a week. Working on a mod is essentially a hobby which you work on your spare time. So in short, it's extremely variable.
