Can I see some fire on dx7 ? Oh and some water too ? I remember both of them didn't work at all on Ep2 dx7.
If your computer is that slow, why bother playing BM anyways?
By the time you get it to work it won't look any better than HL1...

Will the last room before the teleporter to Xen feel more significant in BM? I hope it feels more fortified since it was the last stand for the remaining Lambda Complex team in hope that Freeman would finally make it. That part should have more weight and emotion to it, as it's really the last time you see humans after you depart for Xen.

LOL welcome to BM, you'd better run.

Lost-Coast was when Valve dropped DX7 support for the Source engine entirely.
Technically you shouldn't even be able to run Orange Box with a DirectX 7 card.

DirectX 8 is supported with Orange Box, however, it's not recommended if you want the full Black Mesa experience.

I've almost finished building a DX11 PC for under £300, I don't see why people still run DX8 and lower, seeing that a standard cheap office computer can run DX9 these days, even integrated graphics cards have DX9 on them.

Jaw. And it's jiggleboned as well, so it swings when he walks.

Oh snaps I just realized something.
If your computer can only run DX7, then you may not be able to run SSE2.

We are compiling our dlls to use sse and sse2 instructions when the compiler believes it to be useful ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/7t5yh4fd.aspx ).

We did this not only to boost performance but according to valve's survey 98.26% of its users have SSE2. So if your that < 2 percent, then its time to upgrade. http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey ( scroll down to the very bottom and click on "other settings" )

edit:
I wrote an application that tells you if you have SSE2 and alike.
It also contains the source code.
I take no responsibility for what damage that may do nor do I hold an warranty over it.

Google tells me that 300 pounds ~ $460. What exact components are you sticking in this box that actually qualifies it as a functioning computer?
  • Mobo: ~$100
  • CPU: ~$100
  • 2GB RAM: ~$100
  • 320GB HDdrive: ~$60
  • Cheapest DX11 Videocard: ~$45
  • Cheap Case: ~$40

I'll grant you that the dirt-cheapest components will hit that budget, but it will barely be able to run Windows, let alone Black Mesa with anything that can passably be called "performance". This also doesn't account for an operating system (now that I think about it - will BM: S run on Linux? Ignore that question if it's in the FAQ, I'm primarily a Windows user so I never considered it) which would cost ~$100 for an OEM copy of Windows Vista/7, which is required for DX11. That pushes you to $550ish. So unless you're recycling some parts, I'm curious about your parts supplier

Will the new SDK update adversely effect the mod's development in any significant way?

They'll probably have to start again, but apart from that, things seem fine.

We found a way around the problem by using the old binaries, but it has effected us.

yes, but HL 2 was made as a dx 9 game. it had dx 7 support until lost coast, but it was made for looking best with dx 9 - just not to forget this

why should anyone today still wanna have a dx 7-game? dx 7 was BEFORE HL1! maybe anyone wants a new C64-game?
