In Half-Life, it was plausible for you to run out of ammo or to get stuck because you failed at doing certain things.

How will this be in Black Mesa? (With "Ammo" I mean Teleporter ammo).

a gun that would occasionally teleport you over a bottomless pit sending you falling to your death

Ok, I might be confusing some games, sorry.

Still you could trap yourself in Half-Life, how will this be in Black Mesa?
Will you get a "Failed" message just like Half-Life 2 (if you crash the car in the ocean for example).

You mean when you died or killed necessary charachters (to open doors etc.), the "GORDAN STOOPID GORDAN DIE!LOLZ!11" message?

You'll still receieve the 'failed' message for not completing portions of the game correctly, if essential NPCs die, etc...

Is fadeout/failure going to persist for falling off the cliff, or falling into the abyss on Xe--- I mean, below platformers?

in the original HL there weren't that many. it was obvious which ones were though "Gordon, let me open that door for you" *crowbar to the face* MISSION FAILED

off the top of my head, the few i can think of was the one thats now Eli (very soon after the RC) and the one in lambda core that opens the portal to xen. Although wasn't there also one in the Questionable Ethics chapter? or am i imagining things?

EDIT: oh and a good portion of NPC's pre RC of course

None of the scientists before the resonance cascade are critical because it's not possible for them to die unless you're cheating.
