If you are holding a weapon at hip level, you just won't see it when you shoot. The weapon in Half Life 2 is at shoulders level.

Look straight forward.

Hold your arm stretched forward.

Now hold your arm with your elbow bent at about a 90 degree angle, with your lower arm parallel to the ground.

Which one looks more like your standard FPS?

You may hold any real or fake firearm you wish while performing this test.

You don't hold your gun with only one arm in Half Life(Except from pistols) Eventhough in Half Life 2 the pistol is more centered and closer to the eye line, so I can assume it's also at shoulder level. If you hold another invisible weapon(Per example a MP5 or a shotgun) with both arms at shoulder level, it will look almost exactly like the FPS.

Honestly if you hold a firearm in real life the way it looks like in an FPS game, then you will have some serious issues wielding that thing.

It's a good thing this isn't Half-Life: Source.

Is it possible to hold an activated grenade(thrown by someone else) and drop it like if it was an object?

It wasn't a failure, it delivered exactly what it promised. HL1 ported to the Source engine with a few enhancements.

However, a lot of people were disappointed with it because they assumed it was going to be a full remake of HL1 on the new engine.

It was from there that the idea to do a remake in the form of a mod originated.

I´d say no, as it wouldn't make any sense.
When you remove the safety pin, only holding the safety lever against the grenade prevents it from blowing up.

When you release the lever, get rid of the grenade (preferably throwing it) or run like hell to safety.
The grenade will blow up in 2,5 - 3 seconds. (might depend on the model)

But if you're fast enough you can throw it back to the grunts.

It fascinates me how much people say the game sucked or failed all because of a huge misunderstanding.

Meh. Misunderstandings happen all the damn time.

OT: So how's that developers' commentary coming along?

4.5 hours of penis jokes.

Also that grenade thing is good news. Last I heard the devs weren't allowing that because of its impracticality, but I love throwing grenades back using E for some reason.

I thought I'd heard that, too, so it could just be that the wiki isn't up-to-date.

Why would Marines use 50 year old grenades?

Because they are horribly under-funded and only have access to large stockpiles of museum exhibits.
