Is half life 1 worth rebuying if you lost the original copy?

If you don't already know the answer, then you are not even fit to play Half-Life.

I think that you guys have done fantastic work on the mod, but are you guys worried that the community would treat the game with hostility once it comes out? What I mean is, are you worried that the players are gonna scrutinize all aspects of the game and eventually start to criticize you for not meeting their expectations? I think the game would be absolutely amazing once it comes out, but some of my friends say that it would be like Duke Nukem Forever: several years in development, but complete shit. I just want to know your opinion on what would happen at the release of the mod.

People are gonna get mad no matter what we do; this is the internet, everyone loves getting buttdevastated at the slightest provocation. See the comments section of the recent RockPaperShotgun interviews for an amusing entrée of things to come.

For what it's worth, I was able to look at a lot of the known info on DN:F long before it actually released, and said to myself "...Yeah, they're not making the right decisions. Unless I'm missing something crucial...this is gonna suck."

I have a question based on part of the RPS interview.

Before this, it was a nightmare of trying to manage everything and communicate across timezones…and it was hurting more than helping development. By allowing people to self-organize on the team, they naturally formed groups that were timezone-centric, and we gained a ton of efficiency and really started to make progress as a team."
It strikes me that this is almost exactly how Valve themselves are set up. At the time, did you guys realise this? Or was it just an awesome co-incidence that you hit on that as the best way of reaching the "Valve Quality" target you set?

I agree that it sounds like Valve's structure, but with only one project.

With their team scattered all over the world I don't see how they could possibly find a way to work together efficiently, one guy works on maps, finishes his job, write's a note, goes to bed, different guy across the globe wakes up, goes on the comp, reads the note and says "what the hell, this doesn't seem right", but he can't contact the other guy for clarification because of the time difference.

Wouldn't it be easier to set up two team leaders? One for every half of the world and then they simply communicate between each other?

You assume we sleep.

As for that structure, we tried traditional heirarchy formats, and it doesn't work too well outside of an office/payed profession. Peer reviewed collaboration takes longer but generally we ended up with better results. Informal cabals occasionally formed over the years, but nothing with solid boundaries. We didn't base it on Valve, as I don't think anyone realised thats how they do things until recently.

Can we have a postmortem after development finishes and the mod is released?
